Too often these past few years, I’ve received news from family and friends that someone close to me has been diagnosed with cancer.
And while there have been some happy endings, some tales of recovery and remission, there has also been plenty of loss.

The older I get the more Cancer has touched my life.
Whether it’s friends, collegues or relatives of people I know, Cancer has poked it’s ugly head out of the shadows to take its toll.
It does not discriminate against religion, sex or age. When my wife and I first started dating in 2006 she was going through the latter stage of her survival with stage 1 Cancer. Read more of my story here and check out my personal donation page here.

Well my story with Cancer started when my father was diagnosed with lung cancer in the late 1970′s and was told that there was little that could be done for him, I saw what this did to my mother and your family…

In 2004 my cousin Steven travelled across Canada.
His goal was to meet reconnect all of his extended family.
He did this after losing his arm to Osteosarcoma. He achieved his goal, and helped bring everyone together.

Riding my bike has always been something that I have done for enjoyment since I was a kid.
From cross country to downhill, it was almost always on dirt and usually involved doing something stupid.
This summer I bought my first kind of road bike, a Kona Paddywagon for commuting and training on.
I had never really followed road riding much, other than the odd Tour de France day that I’d watch. Having this new bike though, really opened my eyes. Please read more here & check out my personal page.

Earlier this year someone very dear to me was diagnosed with esophageal cancer.
My Uncle Paul is the heart and soul of our family.
He organizes family events and trips, his quick wit keeps everyone on their toes, and his never-ending bank of random facts ensures no dull moments for family get-togethers.
He is the glue that keeps everyone in our family, from all corners of the world, together. Please read more here & check out my personal page.

Dick Harvey, the second generation of Harvey’s Stores, passed away on April 26, 2011.
He was 87 years young.
Five weeks before his passing, Dick was doing what he liked the most; sitting behind his desk at Harvey’s planning the store deliveries for the day.

My life changed forever the moment I heard those words, "your daughter has cancer." Looking back I can still hardly believe all that we went through as a family and how the almost 3 year battle my baby girl had would change our course in life forever.
